Las Vegas’ newest attraction, the interactive sports memorabilia museum, SCORE! was welcomed to the Strip by some big sport and Strip names during its official grand opening at the Luxor on Tuesday.
Boxing champions Mike Tyson, Richie Sandoval, Mike Weaver, Hall of Famer Marcus Allen, sports agent Leigh Steinberg, NASCAR driver Taylor “The Bomber” Barton, Boxing Middleweight Champ Maricela Cornejo, MMA star Frank Mir, former Major League pitcher Jerry Reuss, the hunks from Thunder From Down Under at the Excalibur, comedy magician and Tropicana headliner Murray SawChuck and his wife Chloe and stage assistant Doug “Lefty” Leferovich, Leon Spinks, Marcus Allen and Warren Moon were all on hand to experience SCORE!’s memorabilia and artifacts from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Pro Football Hall of Fame, U.S. Soccer Federation and more as well as participate in interactive sports experiences.
Several notable Las Vegas residents and SCORE! partners including SCORE! CEO Jim Beckner and SCORE! President Janay Smith commemorated the event with a ribbon cutting ceremony prior to the opening of the attraction. And Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman’s office even declared December 4, 2012 as “Score! Day.”
SCORE! Features sports items and memorabilia dating to the early 20th century and include the 1999 Women’s World Cup trophy, the 1981 Heisman Trophy awarded to USC tailback Marcus Allen, championship rings, World Series trophies, Jim Brown’s 1957 MVP trophy and the largest and most diverse collection of game-worn jerseys anywhere in the world including a jersey worn by President Barack Obama during his high school years. The collection comes from various professional sports’ Halls of Fame and private collectors.
In other Las Vegas celebrity news, the Light Group welcomed quite a few celebrities this past week and weekend including Kendrick Lamar, who performed at 1 OAK Nightclub in the Mirage. Sean Lowe was at The Bank in the Bellagio and Sia was spotted at Yellowtail and The Bank.
2013 Miss America Pageant officials announced their panel of seven judges who will crown the next Miss America on January 12 at Planet Hollywood. The judges include “Dancing With the Stars” two-time professional dancer champion and four-time finalist Cheryl Burke, TV personality Mary Hart, “Shark Tank” star Daymond John, “Good Morning America” weather anchor Sam Champion, fashion designer Bradley Bayou, world vault champion McKayla Maroney and 2009 Miss America Katie Stam. The judges will arrive in Las Vegas right after the New Year to begin preliminary judging. Meanwhile you can get your fill of beauty pageants with the Miss Universe Pageant at Planet Hollywood on Dec. 19.
