Everybody here at BestofVegas is gearing up for Rod Stewart’s three-show run at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this week. And as we prepare for the legendary rocker’s hit show tomorrow night our offices have been blaring our favorite Rod Stewart songs, which of course got us to thinking, what are the best Rod Stewart songs? Here is what we’ve come up with: You’re In My Heart (The Final Acclaim) – From his 1977 album Foot Loose and Fancy Free, this love ballad reached the top ten of many national charts, including #4 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100. Why we like it: Besides the unique way the song is both upbeat and soothing, You’re In My Heart makes us reminisce of a love lost or current love we couldn’t live without. Plus, it’s a great song to sing along to with a group of friends, as we’ve discovered. Maggie May – Written in 1971, Maggie May immediately reached #1 in the UK and simultaneously topped charts in the United States. Maggie was Stewart’s first substantial hit as a solo performer and help launched his solo career. Why we like it: Again, Maggie has just enough beat to make you want to sway your hips and almost distracts you from the somewhat sad lyrics. I personally like how Stewart demands Maggie’s attention throughout and screams out, “MAGGIE!” This song is reportedly about an affair Stewart had with an older woman and that makes it even more interesting to listen to. Have I told You Lately – Another of Stewart’s romantic ballads, Have I Told You Lately was actually not written by the singer but was eventually re-recorded by Stewart and turned into a classic with his version charted at number 5 in the US and UK. Why we like it: It makes us think of slow dancing at weddings. And who can deny the feeling of wanting to hold you’re loved one after listening to this song? Do Ya Think I’m Sexy – Co-written and recorded by Rod Stewart, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy spent one week on the top of the British charts in December 1978 and four weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, starting in February 1979. Why we like it: What’s not to like? With a completely different sound than we’re used to from Stewart and lyrics that always make us smile, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy has it all to make our Best Rod Stewart songs list. Some Guys Have All the Luck – Another of Stewart’s hits not written by him, Some Guys Have All the Luck was a Top 40 hit and hit #10 in 1984 when Stewart re-recorded the song. Stewart’s version incorporates a vocal refrain from “Aint’ Got No Home” by Clarence Henry. Why we like it: We all nod in agreement with Stewart on this one. Some guys really do have all the luck and some really do have all the pain. Plus, the classic ‘80’s style music reminds us of our youth, all awkward moments and all. Whatever your favorite Rod Stewart song is make sure you get to his show this Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday with discounted tickets right here on Best of Vegas Las Vegas, NV 10/05/12
