Tony Bennett, One-Night Only at The Colosseum

Legendary singer and entertainer Tony Bennett has been entertaining Las Vegas audiences for decades now and at 86 years young, he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon! That’s evident in Bennett’s one-night only show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Saturday, September 1. The Grammy and Emmy Award-winner promises to bring his smooth vocals and biggest hits to the stage for a performance that will be as unforgettable as he is.

Bennett began his singing career at an early age but it wasn’t until after serving in World War II that the accomplished singer really honed in on his love for the art. After being discharged from the Army in 1946, Bennett studied at the American Theatre Wing on the GI Bill. There, he was taught the bel canto singing discipline, which has ultimately kept his vice in tact for all these years. Bennett performed wherever he could until one of his teachers at the American Theatre Wing suggested he use his voice to imitate the songs of other artists. In 1949 it paid off when Bob Hope was invited to one of his performances in Greenwich Village. Hope invited Bennett to go on the road with him and just a year later, he was signed to Columbia Records.

His first big hit was the popular song “Because of You” that reached number one on the pop charts in 1951 and sold over 10 million copies. Bennett proved he had what it took to stay at the top of the charts with his second hit, a rendition of Hank Williams’ “Cold, Cold Heart.” Then came his third hit, “Rags to Riches,” which had an up-tempo brassy sound, completely different from his other recordings.

Bennett continued to enjoy musical success well into the seventies with hit albums, “The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album and “Together Again.” But by the end of the decade he had no contract and no manager and wasn’t performing many concerts outside of Las Vegas. But thanks to his son Danny, the singer cleaned up his act and was re-signed to Columbia Records and releasing the album “The Art of Excellence.” Since his comeback, Bennett has flourished in the musical industry, playing concerts to audiences of all ages. Thankfully, the musician has no intention of retiring and wants nothing more than to bring his vocal talents and hits to the stage, which is exactly what he’ll be doing on September 1 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace!
