What to do in Vegas in May 2012

The Entertainment Capital of the World is earning its name this month with comedy routines, boxing matches, music awards and show anniversaries, making for one entertaining May. Here’s what not to miss this month in Vegas:

Comedy

There’s something funny going on in Las Vegas this month and it all starts this weekend when Golden Globe winning actor and comedian Tim Allen brings his adult-only comedy to the Venetian Friday, May 4 and Saturday May 5. The “Home Improvement” star is back and he’s eager to prove to the audience that he’s funny both on camera and off.

On May 21, the “Best Comedian in Las Vegas” Rita Rudner will bring her one person comedy show to the Las Vegas hotel for one night of clever observations, sharp timing and soft-spoken humor.

Over at the Mirage it’s nothing but comedic rants as the Grammy-Award winning and star of Comedy Central’s hit show “The Root of All Evil” Lewis Black brings his scathing commentaries on history, politics and life’s mysteries to the stage Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19.  The next weekend “The Tonight Show” host and comedian Jay Leno returns to the stage with his clever and oh-so witty act for one night only on May 25. Then the Mirage welcomed the cigar smoking, scotch drinking comedian Ron “Tater Salad” White as he brings his blue-collar comedy routine to the stage for two nights in a show you won’t want to miss.

The laughs continue at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace with the comedy sensation Russell Peters. With his observational humor and the guts to say what others won’t dare, Peters is one of the most successful and risqué comedians in the industry right now. If you want to see what he’ll say next, you can catch Peters Saturday, May 26 at 10:30 p.m.

Finally, he’s not a comedian, but sure makes us laugh in Hell’s Kitchen. Award-winning Chef Gordon Ramsay will open Gordon Ramsay Steak on May 11 at Paris Las Vegas, the chef’s first Las Vegas restaurant. And on May 11 in the evening, Gordon Ramsay will be participating in Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit’s Grand Tasting at the Caesars Palace’s Garden of the Gods oasis, where he’ll be serving thousands of small bites to attendees of the event.

Sports

Get ready for the boxing match up of the year when welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. rises in weight and takes on junior middleweight titleholder Miguel Cotto on May 5 at MGM Grand. No better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo!

Music

Creed fans can get the chance to see the Grammy-Award winning group live when they take over the stage at The Pearl in the Palms on Friday, May 11. The rock giants will be performing their hit albums “My Own Prison and Human Clay in their entirety along with favorites from their albums “Weathered” and “Full Circle.”

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards will sweep into Las Vegas May 20 at MGM Grand Garden Arena with performances by Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, LMFAO and The Wanted. The night with music’s biggest stars will be hosted by Modern Family’s Emmy Award winning actors, Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen (Phil and Claire Dunphy). Stay tuned for more announcements on performers and nominees at this year’s awards show.

Anniversaries

Last month the Wynn Las Vegas celebrated seven successful years on the Strip and this month the Las Vegas hotel continues the celebration as its hit aquatic show Le-Reve – The Dream commemorates its seventh anniversary. Stay tuned for more details on Le Reve’s anniversary festivities. They’re sure to be dreamy!
