Even though the Golden Nugget is in the less popular downtown area of Las Vegas, its incredible pool puts it in a position to compete with some of the best hotels on the Strip. Having recently benefitted from a $30 million renovation, the Golden Nugget’s pool is now a 3-story complex called The Tank. The name applies not only for the pool’s size, but for a 200,000-gallon aquarium right in its center. It’s only one of several features that makes The Tank a great place to catch some sun, hang out with friends, and cool off in a fabulous way.
Waterfalls, a Jacuzzi, and an awesome three-story slide – The Tank has got it all, and it all makes for one beautiful pool setting. The aquarium is certainly the centerpiece of the complex with large walls of glass looking in on five species of sharks. Sandtiger sharks, brown sharks, Pacific blacktip sharks, nurse sharks, and a zebra shark call the aquarium their home, in addition to southern stingrays and a wide variety of large game fish in a colorful reef habitat.
Though guests can wade up to any side of the pool and swim beside the marine creatures inside, one of the best ways to view the aquarium is from the inside; the slide, which starts at the top of the Tank, works its way down through the aquarium and past the monstrous sharks. This slide isn’t just for kids, and you’ll definitely want to wait in line for it.
Though The Tank might not stack up to party pools like the Hard Rock’s Beach Club or the Palms Pool, guests can relax glamorously all the same in one of the pool’s seven private cabanas. Each cabana is stocked with personal plasma TVs and refrigerators, and for those who can’t afford the luxury, daybeds are also available, in addition to comfy lounge chairs spread all over the pool area. Some lounge chairs are even scattered within a shallow area of the pool itself, providing a great way to stay cool while sunbathing.
The Tank has a lot of appeal for families, but the older crowd will find their niche at the Dive Bar, a poolside bar offering specialty cocktails. Three live gaming tables are also within reach of the pool for those who can’t bear to part with the casino, and music pumped in through speakers cleverly disguised as rocks add to the festive atmosphere.
If you want to enjoy the aquatic fun of The Tank, our only advice is to get there early – chairs fill up fast at this popular Las Vegas pool.
