While staying at the Fremont Hotel and Casino, you will have full access to the world famous Fremont Street Experience, which takes place right outside the hotel on Fremont Street. During the day you may not even notice the 90-foot canopy that provides shade on the street. However, at night it’s impossible to miss. The canopy lights up creating a beautiful show complete with music and sometimes street performers as well. The show always draws a crowd, and drinking and partying is almost always in full force on the street below.
The Fremont Street is one of the main reasons people step off the Strip and come to downtown Las Vegas. However, the reasons that they end up coming back are what really makes downtown unique. Downtown Vegas is rich with history; the first casino ever in Las Vegas was on Fremont Street. As the attention moved to the flashier and more expensive venues on the Strip in the 1990’s, the Fremont Street Experience was created to draw crowds. Look up and you will think you are seeing all kinds of psychedelic images on the screens above. A tribute to America with stars, stripes, and even jet planes look like they are flying right above you. Downtown is all about casual fun and flip flops are perfectly acceptable on the streets at night. Yard tall margaritas and draft beers are the drinks of choice and everyone is generally just having a good time dancing to the music in the streets.
The show is free and starts as soon as the sun goes down. The shows are constantly changing depending on the season. There are shows for almost every holiday that seem to be growing and growing in popularity. Last year, an estimated 19 million people saw the show. This state of the art system features 12 million LED lights and a 555,000 watt sound system. The picture on the screen is so clear and sharp that an entire movie wouldn’t be hard to watch while lying on the street. The screen is the largest of its kind in the world, as it spans 4 blocks and almost 1,500 feet.
