BODIES: The Exhibition

The BODIES exhibition uses parts of actual human bodies to display vital information about life processes. This educational experience will teach everyone something about their own body that they probably didn’t know before. Exhibits will show everything from comparing smokers lungs to non-smokers lungs and what brains look like after a person has a stroke. Now appearing at the Luxor, the exhibit showcases 21 real human bodies and 260 different organs. The exhibit is also great for kids because it helps to encourage healthy lifestyle choices and a good diet. The body parts had to be carefully dissected and preserved in order to make it to the exhibit. This revolutionary preservation process uses silicone in place of tissue and water, normally found in the human body. The silicone keeps the actual organs fresh and the substance is also clear so people can see through it, just as if it was water.
Other parts of the exhibit will show the process of a growing fetus and how it becomes a full grown baby. There is also a display that shows the effects of alcohol on the liver. This will make people want to think twice when they make their way into a Las Vegas nightclub later that evening. Displays use real lungs and organs to show how the respiratory system works. Real blood vessels are used to show the passage of blood throughout the body. The arteries are injected with colorful liquids so viewers can see the paths that blood follows as it makes its way throughout different parts of the body.
The exhibit received some controversy in many of its first showings because people thought it was wrong to display actual bodies and pose them doing things like throwing a football or some other activity. There was also some controversy because it has never been clear exactly where the bodies came from or if they were given permission to be used for this specific purpose by the families. However, after people see the exhibit, many have said that it is extremely educational and the bodies are displayed tastefully and with good purpose. The BODIES is obviously not for everyone. Some people (those who are particularly squeamish) may not enjoy this as much. The human bodies are real and they are out for open display and this may be too much for some people to handle. So check with everyone in your group before getting tickets. The exhibit has traveled all over the world and it has finally come to Vegas. As of now, the exhibit has not scheduled when it will end, so it seems BODIES will be on display for quite a while.
