Although revolutionary (and free) the monorail system in Las Vegas can be hard to discern. Times and crossovers can get confusing, so let us explain to you exactly how it works so you can arrive at your destination on time. Also, the monorail system is great for business travelers as it connects directly to many popular convention sites such as the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

The tram that runs between the Mirage and Treasure Island runs between 9 am and midnight. The tram should come by each pick-up location every 15 minutes.  The Las Vegas Monorail runs from the MGM Grand to the Sahara. However, this tram isn’t free. The cost is $5 per ride and $9 for a daily pass. The train makes seven stops: MGM Grand, Bally’s, Flamingo, Harrah’s, the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Las Vegas Hilton, and the Sahara.

There is also a tram that runs from Mandalay Bay (the north end of the Strip) to Excalibur (the south end of the Strip). There is also a stop at the Luxor.  The entire trip takes on 7 minutes, which would equal about 15 minutes by cab and this monorail is free, so take advantage.

Although the rides are quick, the loading stations can become heavily crowded during high-traffic weekends and holidays so arrive early; as you may end up too far back in line to catch the first tram that comes by, adding almost 15 minutes onto your travel time. The Las Vegas Strip really is only a few miles long. However, traveling from one hotel to another can take up to 30 minutes in very heavy traffic, whether traveling by monorail or by cab. So please plan accordingly.
