Looking at the narrow cylindrical tower that’s known as the Stratosphere, you can’t help but wonder…how do they fit an entire hotel and casino in that tiny thing? Well—they don’t! The actual casino, shops and many of the restaurants are located at the base of the needle. Above that there is only an elevator that takes you straight to the top of the needle where you can enjoy a few thrill rides, enjoy a meal at the revolving Top of the World Restaurant, or just hang out in the observation area. The guest rooms are strategically placed in a much larger connecting building that is barely visible from the street.
Come through the main entrance; take an immediate right and end you will end up in the main lobby/registration area. You are instantly greeted by a hotel employee and ushered past the velvet ropes. If you look to your left you will see a replica of the famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign complete with flashing lights. Although only 12 years old, details like this give the Stratosphere a classic Vegas feel with all the luxury of a newer hotel.
Look-up and you will see your own reflection in one of the hundreds of mirrors hung high above your head. The front desk is curved, keeping with the circular theme of the hotel. Modern painting, made to resemble patchwork, lines the walls behind the desk and contemporary sconces light the way as you check-in. Get ready, because at this hotel there’s only one way to go from here—UP!
