Stratosphere Observation Deck
After you take the escalator to the second floor of the Stratosphere needle, you will see the ticketing counter directly to your right. If you’re a real thrill seeker, the Extreme All-day Unlimited Package may be your best bet. This will allow you access to all three thrill rides and the observation tower. However, if you’re not looking to up your fear factor, you can just take the elevator 1,149 feet into the air for a much tamer, but equally impressive trip.

After passing a security checkpoint, you can take a professional photo that you will have the opportunity to purchase later. Take the escalator up one more flight of stairs and you will come to an elevator. There’s no need to press the button though. This elevator only goes one way—up! The large mirrored doors open and an elevator attendant will immediately greet you at the door. As you step inside the attendant will explain to you that this is no ordinary hotel elevator. This elevator travels at speeds of 3 floors per second. (It might be a good idea to bring gum if you’re ears tend to pop when reaching high altitudes.)

As the doors open to the 108th floor of the Stratosphere observation deck, you will not believe your eyes. The donut shaped observation deck is completely enclosed in glass that tilts outward. Those afraid of heights may want to stand back at least a few feet from the glass, getting too close can cause a slight feeling of vertigo. Walk over to one of the binocular stands and you can see almost anything within dozens of miles from where you are standing. Walk around and check out almost every area of Las Vegas, Freemont Street, downtown, the Strip, the Palms, the Rio, the massive Wynn golf course, the airport, and the list goes on from there. In the tallest building west of the Mississippi River, you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world. Once you arrive safely back on the ground however; you will have a new found respect for gravity.
