Laurel and Hardy. Donny and Marie. Penn and Teller. 50 Cent and Bette Midler?

Of all the great partnerships in entertainment, one of the newest of them is also one of the least likely – or so we thought. Caesars Palace headliner ‘the Divine Miss M’ recently made no secret of her affection for the rapper sometimes known as ‘Fitty,’ and vice versa as the two appeared together for an event in New York. Reportedly, 50 Cent has been providing support to  Midler’s New York Restoration Project (NYRP), which recently built a public garden in 50’s childhood neighborhood.

However, it’s not the first collaboration for the rapper and legendary singer, who’s currently one of the most successful performers on the Strip with The Showgirl Must Go On. The two opened a community garden together six months ago in Queens for NYRP, and since then, they’ve been bosom buddies.

“He’s one of the newest members of our tribe,” said Midler in a speech during the most recent NYRP event, a picnic at Fort Tryon Park. “He’s really made my life worth living. 50 has been with me through thick and thin.”

And in separate interviews, the Divine Miss M gushed about her friend. “He is such a gorgeous star – holy cow! He’s like the Godfather of Jamaica, Queens.”

50 Cent also praised his environmentally aware friend, stating, “Look how beautiful things are and how nice it feels when [I’m around her]."

Despite the fact that Midler recognizes the oddness of the pairing – “Little Jewish lady and the great big rapper,” she described – the two even expressed a mutual desire to work together on a future record. However, the odds are pretty slim that you’ll see Midler rapping.

“I’d love to collaborate with him, but I’m way older than him. I really can’t rap, but I’d love to sing in the background on ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” Midler stated. She joked that she’d love to work on a song from the Depression, but she’s afraid Fitty doesn’t know any.

"Me and Bette collaborating would be really hot,” 50 added. “But I’d need to make something new for her. For the right song, we’d definitely get together."

If the duet actually happens, there’s a good chance it could get recorded at the Studio at the Palms, where 50 Cent recorded his latest tracks with Dr. Dre and Eminem. So there you have it – stay on the alert for a tall, dark rapper and a petite Jewish singer, coming soon to a Las Vegas hotel near you! Who knows? Maybe 50 will even take the stage with Bette and don a showgirl outfit. If the two became friends over gardening, anything’s possible.
