The Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, is China’s most important traditional festival, and is celebrated worldwide, including in Las Vegas. According to the Chinese zodiac calendar, the year of the pig begins on Feb. 5, and Las Vegas plans to celebrate big. Here are the best places to party:

The 8th Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert

In its 8th year, this grand Chinese New Year event has expanded its format to include the Fashion Show, Fremont Street and Downtown Container Park.

Kick-Off Dinner and Ribbon-Cutting – Feb. 8
Fashion Show Las Vegas                                                                                    
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m

The lineup of events begins with a tickets event at the Fashion Show with a VIP family-style dinner with cocktails sponsored by Remy Martin. There will be a cultural runway fashion show and traditional Chinese dances. Tickets are priced at $125, and are available at Eventbrite.com.

Spring Festival Parade – Feb. 9                                                                             
11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Fremont Street Downtown Las Vegas

The Vegas Golden Knights and Chance, the team mascot, will officially kick off the Spring Festival Parade.  The parade starts on Fremont Street – 11th street and ends at 7th street.

Parade After Party – Feb. 9                                                                         
12 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Downtown Container Park

This will be a celebration for the entire family! It will include a youth hockey clinic by the Vegas Golden Knights, dances, martial arts demonstrations, and traditional Chinese music performances. The evening ends with the Dance-4-for-a-Cause event which will benefit the Las Vegas China Town Lions Club and the Las Vegas Vietnamese American Lions Club. Participation is free; however, attendees are encouraged to bring toiletries, socks and basic needs to help the less fortunate in our community.

The LINQ

In honor of the New Year, a four-day festival featuring festive Chinese decorations, cultural performances, live music and traditional dances will take place on the LINQ Promenade.

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas

The resort will officially kick off the Lunar New Year with a Lion Dance and will continue with additional activities in the Grand Canal Shoppes.

The Lion Dance – Feb. 5                                                                                                     
3 p.m.

The dance will begin at the Venetian’s porte cochere going through the lobby and casino, and stopping at the waterfall atrium where a 3,000 pound golden pig stands. The dance continues through the Palazzo lobby and casino ending at the Palazzo porte cochere.

Traditional Fan Dance and Holiday Promotions at the Grand Canal Shoppes – Feb. 5      
3:45 p.m.

The festivities at the Grand Canal Shopped begin with a fan dance above the waterfall.  More than 500 red envelopes will be give out to guests both during and after the dance. In the envelopes will be prizes ranging from gift cards to chocolate gold coins.

MGM Resorts

MGM Resorts will celebrate the Year of the Pig with lion and dragon dances at four of their casinos on the Las Vegas Strip:

MGM Grand – Feb. 5                                                                                                       
4 p.m.
 
The procession begins at the front desk lobby, through the casino floor and ends at The Mansion at MGM.

Bellagio – Feb. 6                                                                                                      
4 p.m.

Visitors can watch the start of the dance at the porte-cochère and follow the procession through the casino.

ARIA – Feb. 7                                                                                                             
6:30 p.m.

The lion and dragon dance begins at the ARIA valet and winds through the casino floor.

Park MGM – Feb. 5                                                                                                                      
7 p.m.

The colorful dances begin at Eataly, wind through the casino, and end at the Park MGM Main Lobby.
