There is about to be a new face on the Strip and it will be massive! The first phase of the three-year Asian-themed resort project, Resorts World Las Vegas has begun on the Strip, and there is much to be excited about. Once set to become the Echelon project, former site of the Stardust, the 87-acre plot of land was purchased by Malaysia-based gaming company Genting Group in 2013 and is expected to become the home of 3,000 hotel rooms, a 4,000-seat theater, 30 restaurants and bars and an "elaborate garden attraction,” and that’s just in Phase 1!
Additional phases will bring even more gaming, increase room inventory and the arrival of a conventions space, a water park, bowling alley, movie theater, rooftop sky park and observation deck atop a 674-foot tower, a 50,000-square-foot, 58-foot-tall aquarium full of exotic fish, a possible “studio tour” attraction and maybe even a panda exhibit, although this hasn’t been mentioned in recent updates. Genting Group will incorporate up to 85 percent of the existing Echelon Place into the design.
Genting Group is a leisure and hospitality company with resorts located in Southeast Asia. The company also lists a gaming property in the New York City area.
The resort will boast an Asian theme, with primarily bright red buildings and a Chinese Village themed shopping area. As Phase 1 construction continues we will learn more and more about what exactly will be included in Resorts World but as for that rumored ‘studio tour’ attraction concept, it is being considered for a future phase of the resort and may be based on attractions and themes under construction at the 20th Century Fox World Theme Park going into Resorts World Malaysia.
When Genting Group finally got the go-ahead to begin Phase 1 of Resorts World, K.T. Lim, chairman and CEO of the Genting Group, said in a statement, “We are incredibly grateful to the leaders of the state of Nevada, Clark County and the city of Las Vegas for joining us in announcing what will be a fantastic addition to the top resort destination in the United States.” He went on to say, “This is a great day for Genting, Las Vegas and the state of Nevada and we look forward to taking full advantage of this exciting new opportunity.”
